March 10, 2005  -  I upgraded to 3.0 today. . Combinator patch examples PAD - Ageless Exposition This is a great-sounding soft pad, very expressive and rich in movement. As you can hear, the filters and reverbs are top notch. ETHNIC - Andean Pipe Dream A great pan flute that works for many genres. Great delay and mastering effects. CHOIR - Artificial Choir The sample ROM in Reason 3.0 has been greatly expanded. There are now many more samples, and of higher quality. This hypnotic choir works perfectly for soundtrack work, I just love it. PIANO - Concert Grand Piano And again, the grand piano sounds have been greatly improved from version 2.5. Notice how Propellerhead seems to follow an industry leader, Roland, in its choice of sampled piano - this reminds me of the newest piano sound used in the Fantom X series. Very expressive, evocative and moody (and I just used a Radium-61... imagine with a weighted keyboard..) DANCE SPLIT - Dance Patterns Back to Reason's origins.. this is literally a one-finger orchestra. Start Run and play notes - the Matrix sequencers (all tweaked to perfection within the "Combinator pod" follow exactly what your fingers are doing - not dissimilar from the latest combi patches in the various Tritons, Motifs, and Fantoms. ETHNIC - Far East Split Another outstanding ethnic patch . I did add a couple of percussion tracks, but the oud and flute sounds come from a Combinator patch. Reason 3.0 is really becoming more of a workstation, not simply "a dance tool". ORGAN - Psychedelic Organ Aha! Here we have a great-sounding, 1960s Pink Floyd style organ. I added a drum loop and a vintage bass (also from the new sample ROM). Really sounds like Pink Floyd, doesn't it?? ORCHESTRAL - Rich Full Strings Even though Orkester is still on-board, the strings patches have been improved. This sweet-sounding combo works greatly both as pad and for soundtrack work. ORCHESTRAL - Trumpet Solo Echo Longer, and more samples make a better trumpet. Very realistic natural vibrato. SOUND FX - Tunnels to Zion Here's a reference to The Matrix. Killer sound fx - with plenty of echoes, shattering glasses and general pad-goodness. Distorted Reality anyone?
